  Frank Bolle, BUCK ROGERS PART 3, (BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY # 4) - "Part 3 of the Movie adaptation - the attack on Earth Begins !" - Many people have embraced & repeat this identification for this painting, though I can't find any 'real' confirmation of it.  I hope that it's not just from early confusion with the fact that he did the interior art for this comic as well.  Also, there doesn't seem to be enough other paintings from him available to draw some kind comparative conclusions with. He only passed away recently, in 2020, so I guess we can be confident that he must have cleared up the record when he became aware of any contention about it.

  Paul Lehr, CELEBRATION - This is the only title I've seen associated with this painting, but I'm not confident that it is a book cover, rather than private piece.

  Paul Lehr, THE OUTWARD URGE - "The story of man's leap into the seas of space" - While this was Ballantine's paperback release of this sci-fi novel by John Wyndham (curiously giving one of his pen-names, 'Lucas Parkes', as co-author), just five months earlier the same art had been used on the last issue of the magazine SATELLITE SCIENCE FICTION 1959-Feb (and as such making it Lehr's first art in a SF periodical, reportedly illustrating Poul Anderson's story Sister Planet.  The art was later utilized on Pabel's Raumschiff Der Generationen [Spaceship Of Generations] by their Klaus Fischer.

  Robert McCall, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (space-station concept art) - This artwork was produced in the run-up to creating this movie.  It seems to have been later that McCall painted his iconic tighter-focused & somewhat stylistically-looser movie-poster image. As it is, it seems to have been the basis for one of lesser-seen promotional displays.

  Karl Stephan, DEATH OUT OF NOTHING, (UTOPIA ZUKUNFTSROMANE # 127) - "Wolf Detlef Rohr--Der Tod aus dem Nichts[Death Out Of Nothing]" - Note that this painting is nearly a complete 'lift' from Alex Schomberg's painting for Starling Stories 1954-Spring.

  Karl Stephan, VERSHWÖRUNG GEGHEN TERRA [CONSPIRACY AGAINST TERRA] - Moewig's release of this novel by José Antonio Roselló as one of the volumes in their TERRA publication series.

  Jim Steranko, CONSPIRACY OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - The Boom Entertainment release of this franchise pastiche by Andrew E.C. Gaska set elsewhere betwixt the scenes of the first movie.  It is reportedly profusely illustrated, with this one from Steranko on the cover.

  Rick Sternbach, NEUTRON STAR - "From the Solar System to the Galactic Core, eight rousing tales of adventure in Known Space !" - The Ballantine Books paperback release of this collection of Larry Niven stories.

  Rich Sternbach, SPACEBIRD - Illustrating this Sector General story, the painting was used as the cover of Ballantine's paperback release of the sci-fi collection from James White ("author of the fabulous Sector General novels").

  Rich Sternbach, USS ENTERPRISE DECLARATION CLASS STARLINER - I could be wrong, but I have a vague memory of having had this as a poster out of early Star Trek fandom.  This spaceship design is from Matthew Jeffries, who had been integral to the Star Trek original series.  It is felt by some to have been designed in service of some post-Star-Trek proposed sci-fi televison show that clearly did not come to fruition.  This painting by Sternbach was subsequently visible in Star Trek:The Motion Picture and, slightly later, in the evolving-franchise fandom book, Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology.

  Darrell K. Sweet, INHERIT THE STARS - "A novel about man's place in the Universe" - The Ballantine Books paperback release of this science-fiction by James P. Hogan

  Darrell K. Sweet, TWO FACES OF TOMORROW - "A new super-science thriller from the author of Inherit The Stars" - The Ballantine Books paperback release of this novel by James P. Hogan.

  Bernard Symancyk, OUT OF THE SILENT PLANET - "The beginning of a celebrated space trilogy which is continued in Perelandra and That Hideous Strength" - The Macmillan paperback release of this first book of the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis.

  Robert Tannenbaum, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - "They were searching for a star named Earth, but first they had to win a great war. // The greatest space epic ever - from ABC-TV and Universal by Glen A. Laron and Robert Thurston // Two years in the making...presented at the cost of $14,000,000 // Starring Richard Hatch - Dirk Benedict - and Lorne Greene as Adama" - I perceive that this was the main promotional image of this television production that, while relatively short-lived itself, spawned feature-film compilations, soundtrack albums, paperbacks, its own fan-base and decades-later franchise reboots.

  Robert Tanenbaum, BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES - "The Final Chapter in the incredible Apes saga. The most suspenseful showdown ever filmed as two civilization battle for the right to inherit what's left of the earth !" - The fifth & final release in the original film franchise.

  Larry Todd, STARVISIONS, (EERIE # 33) - "Starvisions--A tale of two earthmen and a...?" - This cover accompanied the story that Larry Todd wrote and illustrated.  The cover art was re-used when the tale was re-published seven years later in the first (and only) issue of Warren's FUTURE WORLD COMIX ("Illustrated stories of incredible fantasy !").

  Ed Valigursky, [unknown title] - Searching has not yet turned up a commercial use this art was applied to.  Perhaps is private piece or otherwise unused.

  Ed Valigursky, A TOUCH OF INFINITY - "Unique stories of the fabulous future" - The cover of this sci-fi collection stories by Harlan Ellison released as an Ace 'Double', put back-to-back with Ellison's novel, The Man With Nine Lives.  This same year we see this are also used for the cover of the Digit Books paper-back release of The House That Stood Still by A.E. vanVogt ("Space Ships...Atomic Warfare...and a fierce stuggle against invulnerable enemies !").  The art was later utilized on Pabel's Anti-Materie-Bombe [Anti-Matter Bombs], the German translation of Seetee Shock by 'Will Stewart' (Jack Williamson).

  Ed Valigursky, SPACE VIKING - "They looted a thousand worlds" - The Ace paperback release of this novel by H. Beam Piper.

  Ed Valigursky, THE WORLD SWAPPERS - "New planets for old" - This was a cover for a John Brunner novel that was paired, back-to-back, as part of a 1959 Ace paperback 'Double', with A.E. Van Vogt's SIEGE OF THE UNSEEN.  While the other novel's cover was credited to Ed Valigursky, the painter of this one here was unidentified on that side's indicia.  This painting appeared in the Frank Collection and captioned there as unidentified.  On the interweb, Valigursky's name is indeed frequently associated with it, but I was not confident that that was anything more than confusion about Ace-Doubles crediting (or lack there-of), but I'm seeing that those that celebrate these artists are starting to gather this painting together with others from Valigursky, and since it doesn't really stand-out as different from those breathren, I'm going with that identification.  A year later, the art was re-used by Britain's Badger Books for their paperback release of Exit Humanity by 'Leo Brett' (Patricia & R.L. Fanthorpe).  Two years later in Germany, Rudolf Sieber Lonati repainted the spaceship-&-ramp for composition for the cover of Der Weg zur Vernichtung, a translation of that last book.

  Ed Valigursky, AGENT OF THE UNKNOWN - "Had he found the key to mutation ?" - The Ace paperback release of the sci-fi novel by Magaret St. Clair.  The publisher 'doubled' it, back-to-back, with Philip K. Dick's The World Jones Made.

  Ed Valigursky, THE SHIP FROM THE OUTSIDE - "Go--beyond the stars !" - The Ace paperback release of this early novel by A. Bertram Chandler (which was 'doubled' back-to-back with his collection, Beyond The Galactic Rim).

  Boris Vallejo, GALAXY JANE - "She was the most beautiful space pirate in the universe--and the deadliest !" - The Berkley Books paperback release of this story by Ron Goulart ("author of After Things Fell Apart and Suicide,Inc,").

  Walter Velez, THE OUTWARD URGE - It seems to me that this art was first seen as an exhibit in an interview with the artist, Walter Velez, in STARLOG #41, and was captioned there as having been created to be the cover of a Berkley Books release of John Wyndham's novel, The Outward Urge.  However, I can't find any record of such a book actually being published.  At the time, Berkley Books was an imprint of Penguin Books - I note that it was Penguin that released an edition of Wyndham's book that previous year and you can see that it carried a cover by a different artist, in a very different style, so it's easy to speculate that publishing plans changed after this painting was completed & delivered.  If so, I haven't found any alternate use to which it was put.

  Thomas Warkentin, DARK STAR - "What would you be like after 20 years aboard Dark Star the spaced out spaceship // The ultimate cosmic comedy! The cult classic by John Carpenter & Dan O'Bannon" - This is the cover for the 1980s home video market VCI release of John Carpenter's expanded, understandably low-budget, USC student film.

  Michael Whelan, OUTBOUND, (UNKNOWN WORLDS OF SCIENCE FICTION # 3) - "All New! Illustrated adaptations of thrilling SF tales by Harlan Ellison, Larry Niven, and Frank Herbert // -also- exclusive interview with the author of Dune" - Reportedly this was a painting done by Whelan while he was in art-school.  Apparently, it was picked-up by Marvel to non-associatedly grace their comic-magazine cover.  This painting was featured in SPACE WARS-WORLDS & WEAPONS.

  Michael Whelan, STORMQUEEN! - DAW's paperback release of the Marion Zimmer Bradly sci-fi-fantasy, in her Darkover Series.  Surprising that it hasn't yet gotten a featured presentation in a collection.

  Michael Whelan, DINOSAUR BEACH - Gordan R. Dickson said "Unrivalled not only in its class, but in a class by itself." - The DAW paperback release of this classic tale by Keith Laumer.

  Michael Whelan, THE BLOODY SUN (preliminary) - A prelim execution of the cover for Ace's paperback release of the Marion Zimmer Bradly sci-fi-fantasy, in her Darkover Series.  The final version is presented in the artist's collection WONDERWORKS (not to be confused with his WORKS OF WONDER . . .).

  Al Whitlock, DELTA VEGA - An atmospheric matte-painting utilized in an episode (Where No Man Has Gone Before) of Star Trek's original series.   Live action took place in the [real] entryway at the right.  While long considered one of Whitlock's contributions to the show, the name of another long-time effects-painter, Garson Citron, has emerged lately, but I feel there is still confusion involved here and am embracing the 'testimony' of a production-mate working that shot-processing, that it was Whitlock re-vamping his own unused painting created for something else.  With even more modification this was re-used foe a later episode, Dagger Of The Mind.

  FOR THE RECORD - OUR FLOATING CITY HERE IS A MODEL SURROUNDED BY PAINTED ELEMENTS - An atmospheric composition of the city of Stratos, utilized in an episode (The Cloud Minders) of Star Trek's original series.

  Mike Whittlesea, OUT OF THE SUN PART 2, (in SPEED & POWER 1974-Aug 16) - "Hardly daring to believe their eyes, the scientists of Mercury watched as a strange life form burst from the Sun's fiery heart with the force of a million H-bombs." - Interior magazine illustration for the second installment of Arthur C. Clarke's story.  Several years later, for a multi-page sci-fi tale called 'Rough Justice' in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION, the publishers utilized an obvious over-paint of the original to add elements to tie it better to the story.

  Gerry Wood, ROBOTS ON THE RED PLANET, (LOOK AND LEARN # 731) - This art was re-used as an interior illustration for a sci-fi tale in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

  Stephen Youll, RAMA REVEALED - "The Ultimate Encounter" - The Spectra Books paperback release of the Rama series wrap-up by Arthur C. Clark & Gentry Lee. The painting did appear in the artist's monograph (The Art Of Stephen Youll: Paradox), but as a double-page-spread, it was laid across the book's central gutter to ill effect.
